Hello, I’m Veronica

The sky is not completely dark at night. Were the sky absolutely dark, one would not be able to see the silhouette of an object against the sky.

  • This Gypsy’s Spontaneous South by Southwest Trip

Having just been wooed by Austin’s quirky, creative and one of a kind shopping, dining, music and nightlife scene, I’ve been itching to get back literally since I stepped on the plane to depart.

Now, a mere 5 days post departure, I’m cultivating my hit list, RSVPing to a myriad of cultural, musical and interactive events and dusting off my drinking boots as I’m heading back to Austin tomorrow for South By Southwest!!!!

Although I’m just starting my RSVPs now, fashionably late would be an understatement, fingers crossed that I’ll be able to squeeze my way into these top SxSW choices.

    10.  Pandora Discovery Den – Mar 12 – 15th at The Gatsby – Albert Hammond Jr., Bleachers and Black Lips to name a few of my select acts, but this internet radio giant boast the most musical diversity at SxSW.

    2.  Spotify House – Mar 10 – 14th at 901 and 917 E 6th St. – “Tunes, tech and good times all day long”… I’m there!

    1.  SxSW Interactive Closing Party by Media Temple – Mar 11th at Stubbs BBQ – Hosted by Media Temple and celebrating 30 years of Def Jam – Love me some Old School Hip Hop!

Ok, Ok, truth be told, there is just one more party that I’m ABSOLUTELY DYING TO ATTEND!!! I’ll let this photo be my little hint, so click through to see the goods!  Willie…I’m on my way!!!

Stay tuned via JetsetterGypsy on Facebook and Twitter to see if I actually make my way in to all of these events + live SxSW pics and commentary along the way.  I may have missed the official RSVP dates for some, but what can I say, better fashionably late than never, right?

  • Austin, Texas – Need A Reason To Go? I’ve Got 10!

Fresh off of a wild bachelorette party weekend in Austin, Texas, I’m a still a bit hung over to say the least, but am already planning my return to this town a mere week later to take part in the festival of all festivals, South by Southwest.

I have two agendas while visiting Austin for this next eight day stint, first and foremost checking out some of the most amazing interactive, film and of course live music related events via SxSW, and second, repeating those favorite Austin mainstays that I’ve just discovered and can’t get enough of.

For those first timers to Austin here are my Top 10 Must See or Do Austin Staples that I’m giddy with the knowledge that I’ll be able to revisit them beginning in less than 24 hours:

    10.  Chic Mexican fusion at La Condesa –  One of the more elegant picks around town, La Condesa has phenomenal and authentic ceviches and taquitos, all presented in a more modern artistic way.  As a mescal fan, the Nueva Moda cocktail can’t be missed.

    9.  Wine with a View at Uncorked Tasting Room and Wine Bar – Although it may look like you’re pulling into the Shell gas station on the corner, turn in, and drive past and up the hill to try wines from one of Austin’s most extensive wine lists while taking in the best view in town.

    8.  Virtual Office at Easy Tiger Bake Shop & Beer Garden – Come in for breakfast of delicious baked breads and a coffee,  “stay a while”, as their sign suggests and then grab an afternoon beer and soft pretzel over a game of ping pong in the beer garden.

    7.  S.I.P at The Living Room Bar at the W Hotel  – Artsy creative types meet startup hipsters at my favorite Austin happy hour.  Get there early and enjoy their surprisingly low drink and bite specials.

    6.  Eclectic vintage and independent label shopping along South Congress at The Impeccible Pig, Maya Star and New Bohemia.  Yes, I will be finding some SxSW wardrobe staples right here in town!

    5.  Country Dancing at The White Horse – Brush up on your two step and prepare yourself to grab a dance partner at this hip East Side local Honky Tonk.

    4.  Dinner and Drinks at Lenoir Restaurant – Make sure to call a few weeks in advance to reserve your space at this tiny gem of a farm to table, unbuttoned gourmet experience, as it’s the hottest ticket seat in town.  You’ll find yourself equally mesmerized by intimate, tent like indoor setting and the delicious and unique dishes on their 4 course pre fixe menu.  Certainly take the time for a drink outback afterwards.

    3.  Brunch at El Alma Restaurante Bar – I’m a lover of brunches and quite possibly have found the best Mexican inspired brunch at this simple, white adobe restaurant that allows the food to shine.  Huevos Franceses with the crab hollandaise, and the banana bread pudding with cajeta are not to miss.  After polishing off your brunch drinks, stumble up to their rooftop area to enjoy the view and the rest of the afternoon.

    2.  Live Music at The Continental ClubAustin’s original live music venue, owning the scene since the 1950’s.   Downstairs check out their main stage rock, jazz and blues acts in a small setting for a very affordable price, while drinking your can of PBR.  Upstairs find yourself in a more relaxed MTV Unplugged style setting with no cover and bands performing in almost an open mic style.

    1.  Backyard Drinks on Rainey Street at Lucille and Bangers Sausage House & Beer GardenI cannot think of a better neighborhood to spend a sunny afternoon in Austin than Rainy St. with all of their eclectic homes turned bars and restaurants, most boasting huge back yard spaces for lingering over drinks, as well as the neighborhood’s close proximity to Lady Bird Lake.  Lucille, the retro patio lounge is the perfect setting to lay back in one of their hammocks and enjoy a Lucille’s Special Tea, one of their famous sweet tea vodka cocktails while Bangers is a super laid back beer garden with a fantastic selection of beers and great food to compliment, like the jalapeno mac and cheese, the bacon green beans and the spicy  chorizo sausage.

So I’m off to Austin for round 2!!!  I wonder what kind of favorites I’ll fall in love with this time?  Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to share!

  • The Birth of Excessive Baggage – One Injured Gypsy, One Very Long Trip and Always Somewear To Be

When faced with the reality of being a Jetsetter Gypsy, needing to look chic and of the moment in any scenario, yet, having injured my back during my last massive multi-destination tour of 3 months, I’m vowing to no longer carry my 2 checked bags (one 50 pounds and another 75 pounds) in addition to my carry on “office”.

From now on, or at least the near future until I can permanently employ a sherpa to carry my baggage, I’ve decided to present myself with the personal challenge of traveling with the same carry on roller bag and one 50 pound checked back. Ok, ok…also a large Longchamp “Le Plage” bag, for any emergency purchases along the way.

Of course, now embarking on my first major trip since enforcing this new rule on my lifestyle, I’ve had to pool my resources and reach out for professional help, being that of friend and fashion blogger at Somewear To Be, where together we’ll conquer my greatest wardrobe / packing challenges.

First up: Packing For A Long Trip – 6 Weeks Travel (March 14th – May 1st) – LA, Los Cabos, Todos Santos, Puerto Vallarta, Charleston, SC, Washington, DC, Umbria, Rome and Milan Italy. The greatest challenges being change of season and a wardrobe for any occasion from beach to professional as well as chic evening wear. Mission accomplished as I’m on my way, and have fit everything into my limited luggage. Check out the contents of my baggage in the first meeting of minds of two fashionistas, Jetsetter Gypsy and Somewear to Be.

  • Excessive Baggage – St. Patty’s Day Fashion – Drinking Shoes Included

Really, when it comes to St. Patty’s Day fashion, there’s only one key item to remember…Your Drinking Shoes!!!!

This is the one day of the year where fashion rules and trends get thrown out the door because who really cares after all, as everyone around you will be wearing beer goggles by the time the clock strikes 12:00 noon.

In the event that you do care about your appearance, for those three to four hours prior to the drunken haze, well, I’ve got you covered, and I’m serious about the Drinking Shoes…make them comfortable, as they’ll keep you walking all over town in high spirits this St. Patrick’s Day.

Oh,yes, and don’t forget to wear green!  After all, who would want to be pinched by a cute stranger in the corner of a crowded bar?  Well, that may not be such a bad idea after all 😉

  • Las Vegas – A Breath of Fresh Air at Aria

When planning a recent business trip to Las Vegas, I had found myself looking for someplace different to stay.  Having visited this town many times before for conferences and bachelorette parties, I’d experienced it all to the fullest, and this time I was really desiring a chic mini escape, where after business matters wrapped, I could relax, revive and of course have a little fun, all in a matter of 24 hours.

I settled upon ARIA, after minimal research, literally visiting their website and seeing that, yes, this place had enough Vegas style gltiz and glamour, but nothing over the top.  In more simple terms, it was all clean lines and modern with a sexy and sophisticated edge, yet with all of the creature comforts that I was looking for.

My escape to ARIA began immediately after my meetings wrapped up in the late afternoon, when I returned to my room, fell into my super comfortable bed and allowed myself to take the most blissful of naps, not to mention, waking up to the glistening view of the Las Vegas strip below me, later that evening.  Still a bit tired and groggy, I decided to order room service dinner, a great bottle of wine and enjoy a bit of solitude in my suite.

Day two started off in the best way that I can possibly think, when traveling solo…an early visit to the spa.  All stress was worked away from my hot stone massage and a circuit of sauna and steam room.  Afterwards, not yet wanting to come out of my zen state of mind, I chilled for a bit beside the therapy pool on the balcony of the spa and re-introduced myself to the world.

The afternoon was spent at the only place I could imagine being, Liquid Day Club and Lounge.  This poolside lounge allowed me to get a feel for ARIA’s entertainment and party scene, while taking in some much needed sun and a few glasses of champy.

Knowing that I had a red eye flight to catch back to the East Coast that night, I couldn’t get too tipsy, so after a few hours of the pool scene and a noticeable tan line, I headed up to my room to prepare my bags and prepare myself for dinner and my flight home.

I opted for Lemongrass, as the high top tables in the bar area were intimate enough to attract me as a solo diner and the casual Thai elegance didn’t leave me feeling out of place in my jetsetter chic flight attire.  The Signature Tasting Menu allowed me to try a wide variety of dishes, yet not be too full for my flight, and it was also a great way to linger over my meal without feeling lonely in my own company.

After dinner, my time was up on my wonderful mini escape to ARIA, which had proved to be exactly that breath of fresh air, yes, real air *not to be confused with the “recycled aromatherapy air” commonly found in casinos, that I wasn’t sure existed in Las Vegas.

I arrived only minutes later to Las Vegas McCarran Airport and as I boarded my flight, felt fully relaxed and revived for my return to the real world.  Who knew Vegas could do that to a girl?
