Barcelona – Eat – Restaurante La Locanda

These days, I’m pretty certain that I know what I’m talking about when it comes to food, and Italian is one of my most frequented cuisines.  However, the greatest reassurance in knowing that I’m dining in the right place is when I’m with local friends or friends of that specific culture, and that’s exactly how I came across Restaurante La Locanda.

My first time dining here, I was invited by a local Italian friend, who has resided in Barcelona for half of his life, but still desires a taste of his home country.  Since developing this friendship, I’ve returned many times to La Locanda, with my Italian friends and without, always trying new things on their ample menu and often returning to many tried and true favorites.

Here they aim to be your typical neighborhood Italian restaurant, where the food speaks for itself, ensuring that the locals return often and conveniently located for tourists to pop in and have a great, authentic Italian meal in a simple and casual setting.
This goal of La Locanda’s authenticity is accomplished easily by their Italian owner, Adriano, using his family recipes and often taking stage in the kitchen himself.  From  the many wines offered to the fresh ingredients for the dishes, most come directly from the motherland.
Restaurante La Locanda is the ideal place to meet for dinner before going out for a night of barhopping in the Born, or a celebratory meal with a group of friends.
Try these for starters, the Tricolore Salad, Beef Carpaccio with arugula and parmesan and my personal favorite, the Fagotini (tiny bags made of bresoala filled with stracchino cheese.)  For the main course, the Selection of Ravioli where you try one of each flavor of the house (the goat cheese and pear are exceptional), one of the many wood oven pizzas, loving their signature, La Locanda (with procuitto, mushrooms and truffle cream) and The Gladiator calzone (full of ricotta, mascarpone, parma ham and rucola).
Just make sure to arrive hungry and with a large group as the dishes are as flavorful as they are filling.
